Spring forage for bees

Spring – an important time for bees.

Spring is a very important period for bees, as this is when flowers and trees begin to bloom. They provide large amounts of pollen and nectar, which are the basic sources of food for bees. These are essential components for the proper development of a bee colony. Let us not forget about water, which plays a very important role in the life of bees.

Plants that support our bees.

Let us not forget about plants for our bees. We can help them a little by planting flowers in gardens, on balconies, or on unused land. They will certainly appreciate it and repay us in return.

Here are some plant suggestions that are a valuable source of pollen for developing bee colonies in spring:

  • CROCUS – one of the first spring flowers, beautifully decorating our gardens and eagerly visited by bees.
  • TULIP, DAFFODIL, HYACINTH – more bulb flowers that delight us with their blooms while providing bees with pollen and nectar.
  • HEATHER, WINTER HEATH – depending on the species, they bloom in early spring or summer and are frequently visited by bees.
  • DAISIES, CORNFLOWERS, POPPIES – ideal flowers for sowing on unused land. Some of them bloom quickly, even just 6 weeks after sowing. You may also consider planting a wildflower meadow.
  • DANDELION – when mowing lawns, remember to spare it! This is the flower from which we obtain delicious dandelion honey.
  • MAPLE, HAZEL, WILLOW – trees that provide bees with nectar and pollen. These two components are the foundation for the proper development of bee colonies. Let us also remember about water, which is crucial for bees.
  • FRUIT TREES AND SHRUBS – we must not forget them. Thanks to the flowers of apple, pear, plum, cherry trees, and shrubs such as currants, gooseberries, blueberries, or raspberries, our bees bring delicious nectar back to the hive. Not to mention pollen!

A beautiful garden with our contribution.

I believe that the sight of such a garden will bring joy to all of us, and we beekeepers and our bees will be very proud of YOU!
